Why the table is easy to misread

Some agreements cover ordinary passports, while others cover only diplomatic, service, official or public-affairs passports. A country can also have several rows with different effective dates.

Use the current Ministry of Foreign Affairs table and read across the entire row. Do not transfer a condition from one passport category to another.

A safe checking sequence

Confirm nationality, exact passport type, purpose and stay length. Then read any note attached to the agreement and check the responsible Chinese embassy or consulate when the wording does not clearly fit the trip.

  • Record the table’s publication date before relying on a saved copy.
  • Keep mutual agreements separate from unilateral and transit policies.
  • If several paths may apply, compare them as separate options.
