Frequently checked questions

MFA original ↗
01Does an eligible visa-free traveler need to register with an embassy before flying?

No advance declaration to a Chinese embassy or consulate is required under the current MFA unilateral visa-free FAQ. The traveler still has to satisfy the conditions and pass border inspection.

02When does the 30-day visa-free period start?

The MFA says the period is counted from the day after entry and lasts for 30 calendar days. Confirm the entry stamp and plan the departure with margin.

03What evidence should a visa-free visitor carry?

The MFA recommends material that supports the stated purpose, such as an invitation, air tickets and accommodation reservations. Keep copies available offline.

04Can a visa-free visitor work, study or report news?

Not under the unilateral 30-day waiver. The MFA explicitly excludes work, formal study, news coverage and similar purposes; use the correct visa route instead.
