The practical setup

Mobile payment is central to daily life, but overseas visitors can also use bank cards and RMB cash in many contexts. Set up and identity-verify a supported wallet before arrival when possible.

Payment-app screens, supported cards, fees and limits change. Treat screenshots and numerical limits as dated instructions, not permanent policy.

  • Primary: one fully verified mobile wallet linked to a supported card.
  • Backup: a second wallet or physical international card.
  • Fallback: modest RMB cash for a failed network or unsupported merchant flow.
